Can you stand it

I could just squeeze this picture, she is so cute! Her new hat, Elizabeth Zimmerman's snail hat. Cascade magnum blue Hawaii yarn. Super soft and cozy.

And how could you mind being stuck in traffic while driving with these on. The Owl mittens or 'hoo hoo' at our house by Morehouse Farm. Cascade, Eco alpaca charcoal.

Must be fall, knitting is underway.

Art work

Oh, what to do with all the wonderful art projects and drawings. We use them for wrapping paper and cards, yet the still keep coming. And oh the mama guilt for throwing them away.

I even found myself upset with Van Gogh's mother at the recent DAM exhibit. She threw all his early sketches and drawings away, how dare she!

Then a brilliant idea from one of Keenan's classmates mothers. She takes photos of all of them. She has the memory and a record of what they created without piles and piles of projects, genius!

It's official

It's official, summer is over.

The tomatoes harvested a few weeks ago before the first freeze have ripened and are simmering into sauce as I type. (Using Soule mama's fantastic recipe, it's on her blog)

Bitter sweet. Fall is my season. It's grounding and nourishing. Just going to miss fresh tomatoes.

Ooo, try this: chili powder and nutritional yeast sprinkled on pop corn. Can't. Stop. Eating.

Smoothie

Sometimes I feel like I'm keeping track of mom points during the day. Healthy meal, point for mom! Lose my cool and throw a tantrum in response to my toddlers tantrum, negative 5 points. So I like to have a couple of fool proof ways to earn a few extra points and make it easier to get to sleep at night.

One of my favorites is smoothies. Fruit, vegetable and yogurt in one go! Throw in protein and a sea vegetable and this absolutely counteracts the mom tantrum, right?

Here is our general recipe. It changes depending on what ingredients I have on hand. I don't measure anything, just throw it in.

Plain yogurt - 1 cup
Leafy green - kale, chard, spinach - 1 cup
Frozen fruit - 1 cup
Sea vegetable - we like Arame - 1 Tbsp
Ground flax - 1 Tbsp
Wheat germ - 1 Tbsp
Chia seed - 1 Tbsp
Whey protein powder - we like vanilla flavored - 1 scoop
Orange juice - 1/2 cup

Blend til smooth, enjoy.

Now back to the important business at hand, dress up!
